Fraser Valley Treasure Hunters Club

Who are we?

We are a club of hobbiests who love to treasure hunt, mostly via Metal Detecting but also Magnet Fishing and Panning. Without a great group of people the Club would go no where. To celebrate this we host the "Hunter of the Month" as well as "Hunter of the Year".

Make sure to check out our Facebook Group for up to date information, recent finds, and more. Click Here.

What do we do?

We explore a variety of locations such as beaches, parks, and historical sites in search of hidden treasures. Once members detect a metallic signal, they dig carefully to uncover and potentially recover the object. There is typically one group hunt a month, a monthly group meeting, a yearly "Treasure Chest" hunt, and a variety of other get togethers throughout the year.

Club Meetings & Challenges

We always try to meet as a group at least once a month to go over club activities as well as do fun things together (BBQ, themed hunts, etc). For Hunter of the Month, everyone brings their best finds in from the previous month to the monthly meeting and everyone at the meeting votes what they think are the best finds - top 3 people get a trophy. For Hunter of the Year, all the points from the monthly votes are complied and top three get a trophy.

Where are we?

We cover all of the Lower Mainland and all the "local" areas. So far we've hunted Chilliwack, Fort Langley, Langley, Harrison Hot Springs, Surrey, Vancouver, Richmond, Penticton, North Vancouver, New Westminster, Maple Ridge, White Rock, Coalmont, and more - it is so hard to keep count. We make sure to take photo's at everyone of our hunts and meetings so if you are coming, make sure you are not camera shy!

Can't I just hunt anywhere?

Please remember that we have to get approvals from the land owners or authorities for any hunting that we carry out. Recently the Parks Operation Supervisor for Derby Reach received a letter complaining about a metal detectorist who was hunting without permission. Please note that the person referred to in this letter is probably not connected with our club and you must always ensure you have proper permission to carry out any hunting.

Rules & Tips

Our Code of Ethics

  • I will respect Private Property and will do NO hunting without the owner's Permission.
  • I will fill in ALL holes regardless of where I am hunting.
  • I will do my utmost to Protect any historic, cultural or wildlife resources I may find.
  • I will be courteous and considerate to all people that I may encounter at all times.
  • I will leave gates as I find them. I will properly dispose of ANY trash that I find.
  • I will not rebury any finds unless the object appears to be too big to dig up.
  • I will not litter.
  • I will in no way damage any historical artifacts or buildings that I come across.
  • I will not tamper with any equipment or signage I may come across.
  • I will leave the area BETTER than when I found it.

Plug Rules

  • You do not take a full size shovel into ANY Park. The only place you can use a shovel is a beach or a farmers field. You still must fill in the holes and try to make it neat.
  • You do NOT cut a four sided plug, EVER! The grass WILL die. You can cut a 3 sided or Horseshoe shaped plug. You do this so that there is some grass still attached to the rest of the lawn and it has a chance of surviving.
  • You use a knife or garden type trowel to cut your plug.
  • DO NOT leave a mess. When you leave an area, there should be little or no proof that you were there.

It is because of people making 4 sided plugs that we are getting a bad reputation from the general public and from Park Managers.

Remember!

FVTH's are ambassadors for this hobby and our club so we expected you to carry yourself accordingly. When hunting in a park or school yard NEVER bring a shovel as the public does not know how we retrieve our targets and will only see you as a vandal.

During summer months when the grass is starting to turn brown, go hunting in High grass, on beaches or in the bush. We do not want to be blamed for any damage to the grass and you don't want to be the reason we are barred from any areas.
